The bland leading the Bush?
Or: The Wrath of Ricardo Montalban*

The Cornerpost by John Dzerbzhinksy(he's the head of Homeland Security in my alternative reality-that's tongue-in-Cheka, btw.)about "Niceness" recalls Peter Brimelow's "Alien Nation" where he writes "...the American conservative movement has reached what might be called a 'bland bargain' with the liberal establishment.....But they must still must not say anything that impinges upon the truly sacred liberal taboos- above all, anything that might be remotely connected with ethnicity or race. And immigration is inextricably so connected."The strength of these taboos are such that Derbyshire and others feel compelled to rebut charges of "racism" by noting that they are themselves immigrants and to quote some non-white immigrants' disapproval of illegal immigration.
While painfully obvious, it should be pointed out more often that those emigrating from Europe and Asia do not, in contrast to many, if not most Hispanics, believe that europeans stole the New World from them. And that if one people believes that another has stolen much or all of their homeland, those people are enemies so long as that belief is powerful. -though there may be peace and trade and neighborliness between them if separated by good fences. (Hmmm, the cover of the latest DeadTree looks promising enough to buy a copy.)
JD's "Geometry of Immigration Opinion" is remindful of the Libertarian-Authoritarian axis popularized by Andrew Sullivan. I'll bet that he received more than a few emails along the lines of "You know, I've always wanted to move to the Southwest." And it would be unfair to the brilliant polymath to say that his graph indicates something like Khan of Star Trek's "pattern of two-dimensional thinking" although he could have added a z-axis, indicating "distance" of immigrants from the AngloSphere. It should be noted that Peter Brimelow called for increased immigration from Western and Eastern Europe.
On a final note for the night, and not to suck up to Mr. Derbyshire(And believe me, Dear Reader, I've tried and it doesn't work)or to my brother who is married to a woman born in Kobe, Japan(hey, he and I are not on speaking terms either),the right of an American to take a foreign-born spouse who is thereby made eligible for citizenship should not be infringed. -well except for American women marrying Moslem men...no, wait, that comes across as bigotted...how 'bout instead we allow American women to enter into same sex marriages with foreigners...and *someone* of course, would have to observe first hand that it wasn't a sham...

*I was surprised to learn that the actor who played "Khan" founded an organization called *Nosostros*-don't know if it is as nasty as Bustamante's MECha.
