Or: "It's the apartheid, stupid!"

Drats, I think I must have given away my paperback copy of *Alien Nation* which differed from the hardcover in its inclusion of more anecdotes about the brainlock and hysteria which seizes some during discussions of immigration.
One wonders if even the grizzled veteran of many little immigration wars, Mr. Derbyshire, hath jaw agape(and we ain't talkin' Greek for love here)as he is stunned by the inability of Jonathan "Helot" Adler to understand that he doesn't favor opening up of the jobs in the U.S. that require the physical presence of the worker on our [sacred, if you ask me]soil. It's not exactly rocket science(too much of which we've given away, by the way). Digging himself in ever deeper(a dirty job which that American is apparently willing to do for little or no pay)Jonathan H. "Apartheid" Adler goes on to write that he favors relaxing standards for immigration and tightening them for citizenship. It should be noted that while the old South Africa system of apartheid was immoral, racist, and unsustainable, that its legal underpinning was arguably not much different than what JAH would bring about. Many of South Africa's blacks were legally citizens of homelands, which did, in fact exist, however incapable they might have been of sustaining all of their citizens. And, as was widely known and deplored, many blacks who worked in some areas of South Africa were physically separated for long periods of time from their wives who did in fact live in those homelands. The situation was grotesque and a major embarrassment for the West, and eventually intolerable for even the whites -who made much more of an effort than one can imagine being made here to "make it work" using identity papers as part of what one assumes, given the explosion in ordinary crime since the end of apartheid, was a vigorous, if brutal, policing.
JAH can't face the face the fact that importing Mexicans and OTMs is no bargain, because (Wait! There's more! Act now and get absolutely free!:)with that sea of hispanics will come their women, children, drugs, drug dealers, gang members, and yes, Mr. Environmentalist, environmental degradation.
