Real Blunders
Or: "10 Years of Delusions of Solitude?"
Or: Squandering "Repitilian" Tears
Or: "Commandante Room Temperature"?

[-don't think there were any bridges to be burned by the two previous blogs, and if this site *has* any readers for which it is some guilty pleasure, they're probably more amused than offended, and would prefer the links to some foam-at-the-mouth white feather.]

Both J. Goldberg and J. Derbyshire may have shown some signs of fatigue or despair(doubt that it's projection, I'm *always* gloomy)in their columns today. In his syndicated piece, "'Bush lied' and the lying liars who perpetuate it"
Jan 16, 04: Jonah writes, "First let me admit that I think the failure to find significant evidence of weapons of mass destruction easily constitutes one of the greatest intelligence blunders since Pearl Harbor." He doesn't give give evidence and probably doesn't believe that blunders were made in the search for WMDs, but rather that mistakes were probably made by Bush and many others(who now criticize Bush in bad faith) in their acceptance of intelligence analysis that purported the existence of large stocks of WMDs in Iraq. Considering the volume of Goldberg's writings, it's not surprising that that he'll make a small blunder on rare occasions. Whether or not he has made a tactical blunder in citing "Pearl Harbor," thereby providing Leftoids with something "quotable" to use against Bush er, remains to be seen.
For the record, I believe that whether or not Saddam's regime possessed mass quantities makes little difference with respect to the morality of going to war against it.(for 9/11 reasons and for the usual reasons- the sanctions were crumbling and inspections were non-existent without unsustainable pressure from the U.S.,making it likely that he would eventually threaten the West or at least go back to eyeing little gulf states with bad intent-sorry -a vision of Saddam as "Aqualung" popped into my head-"feeling like a dead duck..."-too bad he and his fellow ducks are not likely to be in a row before a gallows.)
Perhaps decisions are deemed Really Big Blunders because they occur for reasons that are hard to discern or face honestly at the time that they are made but seem easy to think about some time later.
aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!several brilliant paragraphs disappeared because a family member logged in one the dial-up. don't think I'll bother reconstructing it given that I've got the usual 2 double shifts of work coming up this weekend. noddy blinker time. time for some "social justice" upstairs now...nah a jury probably *would* convict me...
