I've stopped sending unsolicited emails to NRO staff, but will post a few of those oldies until I get up to speed here again. First some faint praise for Lowry on a column: Title: To Allawi: We're not your ancestors' Mamuluks or Janissaries.
-good column of yours today-echoes sentiments of such brilliant thinkers as, er, me.
The Islamofascists seem to be at least holding their own against what is arguably a "dumb cop, dumber cop"(throw in "dummkopf" if desired) strategy of Allaweenie and our coalition. There was a glimmer of hope in recent months with speculative reports that Allawi was abetting or at least not rebutting rumours that he had been personally shooting prisoners. Now he seems to be something of a brake on our forces, although not entirely responsible for our actions or lack of them in places such as Fallujah and Najaf. I haven't seen confirmation or refutation of the reports that the goons of Marquis de Sadr gouged out the eyes of some of their prisoners, but he has surely done and said enough to make it desirable for us to put in the "Cemetary of Peace."
I haven't the foggiest if Kerry will have the chutzpah to criticize Bush from the "right." -or whether "undecided" morons would find it credible. He has flip-flopped more than some Cold War double agents, but he and his constituents know where his true loyalties lie. Btw., what is troubling, if not much noted, is what seems(i.e.I haven't seen any) to be a lack of criticism of Bush from the Right in the House or Senate. Bush might have had the ol' base energized for him had it made some noble failure of opposition from the right with some Howard Dean-like howl(well, maybe not quite so inane) in the primaries. -sigh, "dead" as a Dornan
Maybe I'll get around to outlining the reasons why our situation is worse than was the case in Vietnam(I've already hacked out a bit on the reasons it is better), but "fun" it's not.
