Brane Food?
Or: Kooks & Khukris

Was tied up all afternoon and missed the OBL tape. -Slim and disappointing pickings from some of the big name bloggers today. Derybshire is dithering with eggs in microwave ovens, and for all I know has "lost it": -Pouring coffee out of a Kline Bottle, dunking a torus and wondering if a revolutionary omelette can be made without breaking a topologically equivalent boiled egg.
And VDH makes the reasonable observation that, "After all, we are not Nepalese who storm the local mosque and put the fear of God into Islamists when they butcher our own. We are more likely to be frightened, turn on ourselves, and condemn some American somewhere who cannot stop "this."" -But still comes up with the howler:""Why waste our billions and hundreds of lives on such primordial folk?" — wrongly equating 26 million who wish freedom with a few thousand criminals and terrorists."-Sigh, would that were true!-The number of Iraqi Muslims(not counting Kurds)whose wish for freedom and democracy is not "trumped"(Derb's term)by hatred for the infidel may number only in the thousands. And unlike Matt Dillon's character in "There's Something About Mary," I can't say(you can *say* anything, of course)that I've "been to Nepal," but I may still have a "Khukri"(various spellings, including "Khukiris")knife(rather small and undoubtedly made for export) around here somewhere. I'll go out on a limb here, and state that VDH is not suggesting that we split the skulls of any "sentries" or others hanging around the local mosque. Still, one wishes that our forces would respond to our casualities and decapitations with a disproportionate number of executions of those in our custody and/or by some massive "collective punishment" of Iraqi cities controlled by "criminals and terrorists." -And not that I would lift a finger to report any domestic kook who executed a domestic Muslim or illegal alien. I've long had depressing thoughts that our civilization might fall(in spite of those areas, including the moral arena,in which, as noted by VDH we have massive superiority over our enemies)because we have not produced enough bloodthirsty, bigotted, nutjobs whose acts both answer those of those who comitt outrages against us, but also force politicians to take heed of say, the opinions of what might be a majority of our citizens that immigration should be sharply curtailed and illegal immigrants deported. -take *that* unpleasant truth(or at least reasonable speculation)Mr. Derbyshire....
And there's something pitiful about Andrew Sullivan when he writes, "Yes, there's denial on both sides. Whose is more dangerous? That's the question. And if Kerry wins, he can expect to be subjected to relentless scrutiny from pro-war types like Marty, and, ahem, your humble blogger."
Right.
That squeaks for itself.(his "voice" sounded better last year)
Might as well take Vitamin C for multidrug resistant tuberculosis.
As VDH(and YT)has noted, the Islamofascists are still weak militarily. The *worst* they seem capable of doing is setting off a few nuclear devices on our sacred soil-perhaps leaving a lot of our "estate" intact after a Kerry is ousted and an Andrew "Sodysseus" Sullivan returns to the fold (or is it "manifold" or Mobius Strip or n-space?)
Granted Kerry's denial of reality is that terrorists and terrorist states can be molified, and that Bush's is that we can bring peaceful democracy to Arab Muslims.
