Making Allawiances....
Slept in late today after working all weekend, but remembering the er, brilliant earlier post of "We're not your ancestors' Janissaries or Mamuluks," will express the wish that *someone* in the Bush admin or armed forces command structure would state that Allawi, while wishing him well in general, has no veto over the operations of our forces. Am also not feeling any joyous vindication of earlier stuff about the possible sapping of morale by disproportionate, and sometimes unanswered, casualities inflicted on us by Iraqi car and remote-detonated devices when reading of a report of soldiers balking at orders to form up a convoy to somewhere or another.
Some of us grizzled couch veterans of the "living room war" first televised during the 60s are starting to have flashbacks of the assault on the U.S. Embassy, which, although, not overrun, was in jeopardy, at least....
