Stanley Kurtz's post re gay marriage in Ireland surely reminded a few readers of the ol' "Sodom and Begorrah" punch line
(How did that SNL song go? -"Man or a woman?...What's that? It's Pat!"....or was it Sean?-yeah, yeah, many gays and lesbians are very handsome or beautiful -and it would be gratuitous and cruel to post the StarTribune photograph of Minnesota's first female fire chief, Bonnie Bleskachek.(yes, I couldn't find a link to the picture)I have no reason to think that she is not a fine human being being and won't make a fine chief-but, sheesh!- her photograph suggests that many people meeting her could no more hide their discomfort than did Michael Meyers in one of the Wayne's World flicks when he met with a bureaucrat with a hideous or glass eye or when in one of the Austin Powers movies he tried to ignore an enormous "mole." Those who subscribe to the RedStar will understand..
Desultory attempts to Google the lines from Val Kilmer's "Top Secret" have been unsuccessful over the past few days, but some may recall a scene in which Kilmer's character is being held for the crime of injuring a member of the East German secret police-In his presence an official takes a call from the hospital, and says something like, "Well, let me know if his condition changes."-then explains to those in the room: "He's dead."
