Scrappling with the western foreign devils and the deep blue sea...
("hey, they can't all be gems")
John Derbyshire probably got a tsunami(anybody else sick of that word yet?)of emails from readers gloating that the polymath has some lil' lacunae o' knowledge given his apparent unawareness that a tidal wave is hard to detect as it travels through deep water. It's generally only near the shore that Neptune gets to indulge in a little shallowfreude.
-posted the below on Scrappleface and then sung, "It's only words, And words are all I have....." This, as usual ticked off the frau, given that some of the rest of the lyrics bubbled out of her "talmudic" memory-along, of course, with the name of the decimated group.

I had a dream........
Millions of Democratics[sic-oops!] were chanting, "Hope is on the way.....hope is on the way...."
In truth, some prominent Leftoids *will* probably take some time out from their sacred duty to blame the U.S. for the disaster(remember those shrimp you ate at Red Lobster? -yep-artificial ponds destroyed protective coral reefs)to raise some funds for relief. And perhaps our impoverished lawyers will kick in a few bucks before lending a suenami(sorry)of assistance in punishing those seaside resorts catering to Western tourists. And of course, the Bush administration is criminally liable for not having installed deep-water tsunami detectors in asian waters. -not that Asian nations should not now refuse any detectors from us given that we would only use them for spying.
-still waiting for David Brooks to set off a "Bobo eruption" of aid for stricken island "paradises."
Finally, we should be understanding and forgiving if indigenous peoples assert their independence and dignity by beheading arrogant, imperialist, and often (gasp!)bible-toting Western aid workers.
