House & Senate Organs

I just now turned on C-SPAN 2 and heard Sen. Kennedy suggest that Gonzalez might permit cutting off of fingers because this would not constitute "organ failure." Teddy apparently restricts definition of "organ" to localized, soft, squishey thingees such as his own carefully protected liver and brain. I waited in vain for Gonzalez to note that, for example, the skin is sometimes described as the "largest organ," or, in keeping with the dignity of the Senator, to ask, extending the appropriate digit, "You mean *this* is not an organ?"
