Chesterton inspired by 2,000 year old parable?

This has probably been thought of countless times before by many others, -utterly banal etc.etc., but I recall a parable, probably recounted from the pulpit of the Lutheran church which I attended(which went pinko during the 60s)as a youth -brief attempt to Google unsuccessful- JC told a story of a man who cast out a demon, with great effort, from his house.(perhaps like the revolutionaries who later strove to cast out the "demon" of Religion)Unfortunately a host of *other* demons saw the now tidy dwelling and said to themselves, "Cool- let's all move in!"
Ah may be a mite embarrassed iffen I get around to Googling the actual scripture, but that's how ah remembers it.
