I sent the following a couple of weeks ago to a guy who I learned had read a weighty biography of the poet, John Clare. -probably adding to his knowledge of Yours Truly as a light-weight buttmunch. My eldest daughter, a fan of the Southern "agrarian" and "refugee" poets will no doubt have the same take on the (slightly edited with a "-" and change in apostrophe)following if she happens to read it -for which my only defense is that it took only minutes to compose:
I prefer the B-52s "Planet Cla[i]re"....
Breath Or: Clare Hair Of The Dog Because I would not chop for Death, He chopped an elm for me, Kindled limbs in long-dead grass, And noting ale on breath: "You're headed for Eternity, And smell like horses' ass." by Emily Noughdickinmeagh -don't think I had even heard of that "plow-boy" -there must be something I don't get- how he's regarded as a "poet's poet" - well, maybe a "model poet" -if the model is "Twiggy*.".. I'm not sure that I'll spend another 15 minutes on the guy.
*VERY subtle agrarian botanical malnutritional runway allusion here.
